This article is very useful. I have used my Mac for years and did not notice my disk is consuming by the useless files. This article helped me much. I also found another free cleanup software MacCleaning. It is free and effective.

I have learned much from your article. And I started to try the various applications, including the software you mentioned. They worked very well. Thank you very much. But their price is high to me. Now I end up using the free software MacCleaning. www.easemac.com It is simple and effective as well.

With iPhoto 9.1.5 and Mac OC 10.7.1 on an Intel iMAc, the inputs to the Smart Album preparation need to be changed to not use caps or plurals in the title 'duplicate'. In my case, all the identified dupes disappear with MAc 101 instructions showing 'duplicates' and Duplicates'

Other than that, the 2009 instructions seem to fit the bill. Thanks

FYI

Just so you know, when you install Lion it creates a small 650MB bootable disk that isnt part of your main partition. At anytime you can startup holding down the option key and boot from the Recovery HD. This will allow you to reinstall Lion, restore from a Time Machine Backup, run Disk Utility, and open a Safari window to look for solutions to any issues.
